How to play 2048

Slide all tiles at once with the arrow keys or a swipe. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one — 2 + 2 = 4, 4 + 4 = 8 … Reach the 2048 tile, then keep going for a higher score.

How to play

1. Use the arrow keys (or W A S D) or swipe to slide all tiles in one direction.
2. Two tiles with the same number merge into one with their sum; each tile merges once per move.
3. After every move a new tile (2 or 4) appears on an empty cell.
4. Merging adds the new tile’s value to your score. Reach 2048 to win — then play on.
5. The game ends when the board is full and no move can merge anything.

Free online 2048

2048 is the classic sliding number puzzle created by Gabriele Cirulli in 2014. Every move slides all tiles as far as they go; equal tiles that collide merge into one with their sum, and a new 2 or 4 appears on an empty cell.

Keep your biggest tile in a corner and build a chain of decreasing numbers next to it. Avoid the move that pulls the big tile out of its corner, and keep a row full so it cannot shift unexpectedly.
