How to play Shikaku
Divide the grid into rectangular boxes. Every box contains exactly one number, and that number is how many cells the box covers. Drag across the cells to draw a box.
How to play
- Split the whole grid into rectangles or squares.
- Each box must contain exactly one number.
- The number equals the area of its box (the number of cells it covers).
- Boxes may not overlap and no cell may be left empty.
- Drag from one corner of a box to the opposite corner. A wrong box that fits the rules counts as a mistake.

Shikaku, also known as Rectangles or Divide by Box, is a logic puzzle first published by Nikoli in 1989. Every puzzle on PuzzleWorld is randomly generated and checked by a solver, so there is always exactly one way to split the grid.
Start with numbers that fit in only one place: a 2 in a corner, or a large number squeezed between other clues. While you drag, the size of the box is shown and turns green when it matches a number.
